We’ve teamed up with Marks & Spencer and the charity Butterfly Conservation to launch The Butterfly Effect project in schools. As part of the Big Butterfly Count from 16-31 July, the project encourages children, parents and teachers to take part in the nationwide survey to help discover butterfly numbers in Britain.
Sir David Attenborough, President of the Butterfly Conservation, said “Butterfly numbers are falling (and) Butterfly Conservation scientists have demonstrated that these declines can be reversed. And when you change the environment to help butterflies thrive, all sorts of other wildlife benefits too.”
With seven out of every ten UK butterflies in decline and half threatened with extinction, we’re hoping our campaign will get as many people counting butterflies as possible. The research will help Butterfly Conservation assess which species are in particular danger and to plan how to protect these wonderful creatures.
