We are excited to have been shortlisted in the ‘Best Education’ category at the National CSR Awards for our work with Sky Academy Skills Studios which has given 55,000 young people access to a unique skills experience.
The prestigious National CSR Awards celebrate business excellence and innovation in Corporate Social Responsibility, and entries for the ‘Best Education’ award were assessed in areas such as creativity; quality of education approach; equality of provision; levels of engagement; and social impact results.
Sky Academy Skills Studios is a pioneering interactive learning experience that gives eight to 18-year-olds the chance to use state-of-the-art broadcast technology to make a TV report on subjects they’re studying at school. Combining a behind-the-scenes tour at Sky with hands-on experience of the studios, students write, produce and direct their own news bulletin, and in the process they build crucial life skills like creativity, communication, planning and teamwork.
The education programme is an integral part of Sky’s commitment to developing the life skills and aspirations of young people, and since 2013 we’ve opened the doors to 55,000 young people in London and Scotland. There have been some fantastic results since then; independent research showed that 81% of students improved at least one key skill and that six months later 90% of students still felt confident in applying one key skill. In addition, 100% of teachers would recommend the experience to other schools.
